Lenovo hinge issues.
The hinges are its weakest point - and they are extremely weak. I had the same issue: open/close/flip with normal force for ca. 2 years, and eventually the hinge will break. The metal hinge extends only 1cm into the monitor and it's held in place by 2 short screws. The plastic cover of the hinge will be the first to go.

I have had a couple of quotes for the repair - both are around £120.00. The laptop has a fair spec on it. Shame that just the the hinge is broken. A new one with a similar spec is around £550 to £600. I have looked at some second hand ones on Ebay so I may get one of those and maybe sell the Lenovo one for parts only.

There is a nut inside the middle of the hinge. You need to remove the hinge assembly and remove the cables, in the little cavity where the cables nest inside the hinge, there's a screw to remove the metal hinge cover thing. Once that's off there will be a nut visible at the end of the hinge insides that you'll need to tighten. Reply. bleep6789

The only remaining issue is that the left side of lid is slightly bent and the thermals suck but other than that I'm happy again. I contacted Lenovo who expressed no interest in repairing it. I was certainly willing to pay too. From what I read Lenovo will not even repair the hinges for laptops that are still in warranty. Lenovo consider any hinge issues not their fault regardless. I have found a couple of local shops that may be able to repair it.
Those hinge issue posts you have seen recently are regarding the Legion 7i (2020), not the new Legion 7 (2021). So far there have been no reported issues with the updated Legion and the new hinge design.
