My general thought is that people want to center their tv on the wall for esthetics and so they end up mounting too high. Or just simply don’t think about it while they are doing it and mount the tv at eye level while standing. Eye level should be within the lower 3rd of the screen. Some may prefer midpoint depending on size. Sit on your sofa and look straight ahead. The fact that it is tilted down to face the viewing position is proof that, at some point during the mounting process, there was some part of the brain of the person mounting it that clearly understood that they were mounting it too high.
