Gilmer County was unsettled until Jacob Bush came from Lewis County, then called Harrison, to settle as a squatter on Cedar Creek about 1.5 miles from the current U.S. Route 33/119, west of Glenville.It was a real community. In 1940 the town had 1200 residents, most of whom had built or owned their own homes. Today it is less than 500, mostly folks who rent property. Laid out by Simon Stump in 1866, it became the county seat in 1869 and was officially. chartered as a town before the turn of the century.Edward C. Weaver was on his way to the Kight Store at Nobe to sell butter and eggs when he encountered his long-time enemy Beaman Wright, who killed him. Weaver's widow with six children in 1928. Calhoun magistrate Lora Davis, in a court hearing Thursday, said that Sam Sloan Schrader, 29, of Erbacon, pled guilty to a charge related to the impersonation of a police officer in Calhoun County.
