I've always liked the combination of the alloy lower and a 17 - 18" barrel. The rifle is a bit lighter and shorter, and the balance point is pretty close to the all steel 50.00 configuration. Might be just my imagination, but the alloy lower/21" balance just feels a wee bit "off", although certainly not a huge issue.

Once the nut is freed, you can re-install the tube in the lower receiver. Degrease everything first. Use red Loctite to secure the tube to the lower receiver. Don't use Loctite on the recoil tube nut. The Loctite will set-up best if the stock is in place, and used to support the tube while the Loctite dries.
