Sep 30, 2017 · The L5P is flat out a better built motor! Go do your research! The L5P has new heads on it that flow much better and a new fuel injection system but the main engine is mainly the same. Main and oil cooling were increased to deal with the extra power. It is a great engine, most Duramax are but it is let down by choking emissions and warranty issues.
