This conversion takes approximately 40-50 hours to complete. The OM617 Mercedes Turbo Diesel Engine needed for conversion is found in most 1980-85 300D, 300TD, 300CD, 300SD models. These engines produce 123HP with 170 ft lbs of torque, but get between 24-30 MPG. They are also won of the best engines made to run on WVO or Biodiesel.

If you dont care about brand or resale value, go with a 6bt, maybe a 4bt but that has worse mpg, an om617 would work too but not nearly as reliable as a cummins The OM617.952 is rated at 125hp/181ft lbs. If I were able to achieve say, 200hp/250+ft lbs, I'd be a happy man. The thing is, it will take money- a lot more than the 5.2- and I'm not sure the added fuel economy would cancel out the initial investment quick enough to be worth it. Diesel is cooler. Magnum might be a better idea.
