Having said that though some people seem to be very 'hard' on transmissions and can spit a T5 all over the ground behind a stock 302. If you think you're in that catagory then don't use the T5. A 6.0L iron motor will handle 1000 pretty easy, we ran an iron 6.0 for a few years back before we started using the erl stuff and it made 1500+ and was reliable,of coarse it was hard filled,dry sumped, had a girdle and was assembled by billy briggs. But some were rated higher depending on it's application. 1989 was not a high horsepower maybe 230 or torque motor if I recall correctly. They sell an aftermarket headgasket that they say u can run higher boost, but i'm not sure how much higher. People have been able to pull off 10-12psi on stock internals daily driven with very good tuning. However that is REALLY pushing it. Personally, I wouldn't go higher than 8psi daily driven.
