Problem is, it's a half-measure, that's the design gap that Hexblade filled. Attempting to be a non-hexblade Bladelock is frustrating and requires a lot of hoop-jumping just to achieve baseline ... The warlock incantation can really help flavor your character. You can start with a 16 Dex, 14 con and 16 cha at the expense of your other stats. That way you can still have good initiative/ac but if you wanted to cast ranger spells you gotta have some wisdom.
